Pure Aluminum has high resistance to corrosion, because as it is exposed to atmospheric air, a protective Aluminum oxide layer is formed on its surface.
To overcome pure Aluminium low hardness , many Aluminium alloys having higher hardness and excellent mechanical properties are made.
These alloys are used in Aircraft industry etc.
On the other hand, Aluminium alloys have a low corrosion resistance .
For this reason , Aluminum Anodizing is widely used.
During Anodizing process ,a porous Aluminium oxide is formed on Aluminium surface, when electrical current is passed through an appropriate electrolyte .
The thickness of the oxide varies usually from 10 to 30 μm.

2.Dyes (organic – inorganic)

3.Electrolytic Dyeing of Oxide Layers
After Anodizing, Electrolytic Dyeing can be used in order to achieve various shades of light bronze, dark bronze, gold, black etc on the articles.
In this case, the items are immersed in electrolytic dyeing baths containing heavy metals such as Nickel, Tin which are electrolytic deposited in the oxide pores. Components dyed with this method are light – resistant and show good protection to corrosion, which is important for the building trade.

The term ‘’Sealing’’ denotes a treatment which renders the coating non absorbing and produces high corrosion resistant Aluminium alloys under various wheather conditions.
The most widely used sealant employs high-quality water (distilled or deionized) at 80-100 C.
Surfactants and dispersing agents may be added to the water to minimize the formation of powdery smudge on the work.
Instead of water, an alternative sealant can be used he pores of the anodized Aluminium με τη χρηση solutions containing metal salts ( like Nickels salts) at Room Temperature.
